Since its inception, the Brooklyn Metropolis Lions Club has proudly led impactful service projects both locally and around the world.
We are delighted to share pictures from one of our Club’s Fall 2024 international initiatives: a shipment of essential supplies destined for a nursing home in Trinidad, West Indies. Our members continually step up to make a positive difference in the lives of others, embodying the spirit of service.
As Helen Keller once said, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”

At Brooklyn Metropolis, we take pride in the lasting impact of our work both at home and abroad. Our projects are never just “one and done”—they are enduring efforts with staying power.
We’re proud to showcase an extraordinary international initiative started by Past President, Lion Susan Belgrave-Hamilton and further embraced by Immediate Past President Lion Patricia Draghine.
Partnering with Lions from Brooklyn, Queens (formerly District 20-K1), and the Dominican Republic, IPP Susan contributed to a meaningful prosthetic limb project. Her compassion and commitment to service extend far beyond borders.

This commitment is evident through “Our Signature Initiatives“, which continue to make a difference year after year:

Annual Thanksgiving Dinner at Hope City Empowerment Center for 400 guests for more than a decade.
Annual Back-to-School Backpack Drive in partnership with Super Wings Brooklyn, Astoria Federal Savings Bank, the Office Depot Foundation/Nick Cannon, Koppel Nissan Group, local houses of worship and elected officials.
Annual Coat Drive serving vulnerable populations throughout Central Brooklyn, Flatbush and East New York.
An international medical/surgical relief effort for a young child (approx. 8 years old) who lived in Barbados in collaboration with District 20-K1 Lions.
Humanitarian relief in response to Hurricane Sandy in the NYC-NJ tristate area.
Global humanitarian relief in response to hurricanes, floods and other natural disasters, in Haiti, Antigua and Barbuda.
In response to growing food insecurity, we spearheaded numerous food drives in partnership with local community organizations throughout Brooklyn and Queens.
Annual Thanksgiving Dinner Basket giveaway project, launched in November 2020, to provide all the items needed for 100 families to prepare a full Thanksgiving meal at home.
Collaborated with Brooklyn’s 73rd Police Precinct to sponsor a Thanksgiving Dinner for over 1200 community residents. Guests could either sit and enjoy their meals in a safe, communal setting or have dinner to go.
Annual Delightful Divas and Distinguished Gents Reading Project at Brooklyn’s Eubie Blake Elementary School, PS 5, for several years.
Spearheaded a special service project, in celebration of Lions Clubs International Centennial Year, at Clara’s House in Chicago, Illinois.
Spearheaded impactful fundraisers to support and raise awareness for Breast Cancer, Diabetes, Pediatric Cancer, Ovarian Cancer and the Guide Dog Foundation.
Under the stewardship of Monique Brizz-Walker—Charter Member, Past President, 2024 Board Member, and proud Brooklyn Metropolis Lions Club member—the Brooklyn Metropolis Lions Club website is managed and maintained with dedication and care.
